Suryakumar Yadav’s crew file highest-ever complete in T20 World Cup knockouts in IND vs ENG semifinal
205/4 was the earlier highest rating in T20 World Cup knockout matches.
Even if the India cricket team had ended with 47 fewer runs, it still would’ve been the highest ever team total in a T20 World Cup knockout match. The Men in Blue didn’t break a record; they demolished it. The defending champions weren’t in form. Yet to play their perfect game.
India’s record-breaking day in Mumbai
Well, that’s a thing of the past now. India just smashed 253 runs in 20 overs against England in the second semifinal of the T20 World Cup 2026.
No team has ever hit more sixes, 88, than India has in the 2026 edition of the ICC tournament. The record of 76 by the West Indies was breached after India struck 19 sixes, the joint most, against England today. 253 isn’t just the highest total in T20 World Cup knockouts but also the fourth highest in the tournament’s history.
It was the 6th time India breached the 250-run mark in T20Is. Across all forms of T20 cricket, no team has done that. Sunrisers Hyderabad, the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2016 champions, have done so 5 times. Among international teams, the West Indies and Zimbabwe have reached there thrice.
Sanju Samson, who’s played just 4 matches in the ongoing T20 World Cup, has now struck 16 sixes in the tournament. This is an Indian record. Samson has overtaken Rohit Sharma, who struck 15 sixes in 2024.
