I’m excited to be giving my first “lecture” based mostly on a few of my sabbatical research on cosmology — particularly on Belgian astrophysicist and priest, Georges LeMaître — on the Treasure Coast Astronomical Society on the finish of March 2026. It’s a nerve-racking endeavor as a result of it is going to be the primary time I’m educating on one thing that I do know little or no about. This doesn’t come as simply as a sermon or Bible examine; and — as the image above portrays — I’ve spent numerous time enhancing and re-writing the fabric.

I’m selected Georges LeMaître as my topic due to his Christian religion and dedication as a scientist. He theorized that if the universe is increasing, then there should be a single level at which it started. Thus, he surmised an explosive starting (what’s going to ultimately come to be often called the “Large Bang”) by which the entire matter and vitality within the universe got here into being.

Although non secular, he was fairly modest and labored arduous to downplay his religion in order that his theories could be taken critically. He as soon as said, “God is basically hidden and could also be glad to see how current physics gives a veil hiding the creation” (Nature, 1931). He even censured Pope Pius XII when the pope gave a chat on the cosmos in 1951, citing LeMaître’s work as a foundation for the existence of God and the reality of biblical creation.

The lesson, slated to be about 20 minutes, will happen on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at 7:30 PM on the subsequent Treasure Coast Astronomical Society assembly. The TCAS meets on the Ft.
