Babar Azam ties Virat Kohli’s report for batter with most fifties in T20I cricket
Babar Azam has taken 10 extra innings to attain the equal variety of half-centuries Virat Kohli hit in T20I cricket.
Since his ascendancy in international cricket, Babar Azam has been compared with Virat Kohli. The Pakistan star batter was on a high for several years. He tumbled record after record. But of late, things had gone off the rails. Babar finally broke this rut last week against Sri Lanka by scoring his first international hundred in 807 days.

He had found his mojo back. Now, in the Pakistan vs Zimbabwe match at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, Babar scored his 38th fifty in T20I cricket. Since his career started in 2016, the former Pakistan captain has been chasing Rohit Sharma and Kohli for the record. Although both retired in June last year, Babar couldn’t get any closer to the record, as he was dropped from the team.
However, in October, Babar returned to Pakistan’s T20I setup. He scored a fifty against South Africa earlier in the month, and with his 74-run knock against Zimbabwe, he has levelled Kohli’s record for most fifties in T20I cricket.
With Pakistan scheduled to play Sri Lanka on November 27 and then a potential tri-series final against either Zimbabwe or Sri Lanka on November 29, Babar might just break Kohli’s record by the end of the month.
