Arshdeep Singh opens up on Daryl Mitchell incident, blames ‘reverse swing’ for hit
IND vs NZ, T20 World Cup: Arshdeep Singh managed to offer a hilarious twist to the scuffle with Daryl Mitchell.
Team India created a bit of history as they won the T20 World Cup 2026 by a massive margin of 96 runs. And with this, they became the first team to win the trophy thrice, the only team to defend their title, and also the only team to win the title at home. And all this was due to the batting efforts by Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan and Abhishek Sharma, who went on to score massive fifties.
Arshdeep Singh minces now words
In the bowling, Axar Patel went on to bag three wickets, while Jasprit Bumrah claimed four. Even though Arshdeep Singh did not pick up a wicket, he did contribute to the team’s win anyways; but he did pick up a fight with Kiwi batter Daryl Mitchell though. The incident happened in the 11th over of the chase, when Arshdeep hit a throw back to the batter.
Mitchell did not like it, and charged towards the bowler in anger. Eventually the fire was doused. By the end of the match, when India were crowned the champions, Arshdeep gave it a hilarious twist. “I just ran off to apologise to Mitchell. The ball reverse-swung when I threw it and it hit him,” he said.
The banter continued post that too. On being asked on his role as a bowler, all he managed to say was, “As a bowler, our role was to restrict them to under 250 if we scored 250. And if we were bowling first, it was just to restrict them to as little as possible,” he signed off.
Looking back at the match, Team India went on to score 255. And in reply, the Kiwis could only manage 159 runs. Throughout the tournament, India only lost one match, against South Africa, that too in Super 8 stage. Post that they were clinical against West Indies, England, and now New Zealand in the final.
