3 Weaknesses in Gujarat Titans (GT) camp
Forward of the IPL 2026 season, let’s check out three weaknesses which could hamper GT’s marketing campaign.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 is just round the corner and all ten franchises have started to put their plans on paper, be it their playing combinations, overseas players, strategies and everything around it. Amidst this, the teams are also pondering on how to get rid of their weak points. Among them is IPL 2022 champions, Gujarat Titans (GT), who will be looking for their second title this season. Ahead of the IPL 2026 season, let’s take a look at three weaknesses which might hamper GT’s campaign.
3 Weaknesses in Gujarat Titans (GT) camp
Over-dependence on top-order batters
One of the key concerns in GT camp ahead of the IPL 2026 is the over-dependence on top-order batters. Over the past few seasons, the Titans have relied heavily on their opening and top-order players to provide the majority of the team’s runs, which can become a major vulnerability in high-pressure matches.
The team’s batting success largely revolves around players like Shubman Gill, Jos Buttler, and Sai Sudharsan. These players form a strong top order capable of delivering big starts and dominating the powerplay. But if early wickets fall, the pressure quickly shifts to the middle order, which has occasionally struggled to maintain the same scoring momentum.
Instability in lower middle-order
Another talking point is the instability in the lower middle-order in the GT. While the team possesses a strong top order, lack of consistent performers in the middle phase of the innings could affect their ability to recover from early setbacks.
Players such as Jason Holder, Rahul Tewatia, Shahrukh Khan and Rashid Khan are expected to play finishing roles in the lower middle order, but their performances have been inconsistent in recent seasons. In T20 cricket, teams rely heavily on strong middle-order partnerships and powerful finishers to maximize scoring in the final overs. Without consistent contributions in this phase, Gujarat Titans may struggle to post big totals or chase challenging targets. Glenn Phillips really need to have a great season for GT.
Bowling concerns
GT also faces notable bowling concerns despite having a star-studded attack. Central to their attack is Rashid Khan, but his effectiveness has slightly dipped as seen in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 where he could manage only 6 wickets in 4 matches.
Furthermore, the pace department, featuring Kagiso Rabada and Mohammad Siraj, also presents uncertainty; both have shown inconsistent form recently, with Rabada leaking runs and Siraj struggling for early breakthroughs at key stages. Death‑over execution is another vulnerability, as GT lacks multiple proven specialists to complement Prasidh Krishna, leaving them potentially exposed in the final overs.
